WJAA Signups

Please remember when signing up for sports at WJAA we are a volunteer run organization for more than 30 years. When signing up you are also agreeing to work at  in our concession or for haunted woods during the season you are signing up for unless you pay to opt out which is a new option this year. That fee is per child.  This is a community effort at WJAA and we appreciate your involvement in your organization.

Haunted Woods 2015 info:

 

When:

October 23rd - 24th, October 30th - 31st Tickets on Sale at 7:00. First Wagin rolls back at dark. 

 

Price:

Adults $15  

Kids (9 and under) $10

Tickets sales will start online on October 12th

Tickets can be purchased at the gate as well. 

To reduce your wait we recommend you reserve online. 

 

What to expect:

Bonfire while you wait

Hayride to the woods

45 Minute Walk through the woods.

9 Scare Sites including

"Devil's Playground"

"House Of Terror"

"American Nightmares"

"The Fear Factory"

and many more......

 

Other things to know:

Wear old shoes you will be walking in the woods.

All money raised supports Williamsburg Youth Sports

It's pretty scarey! Not great for kids 6 and under!

WJAA - What's Happening

   If you are not one to stop in and check out out minutes and keep up with everything happeneing in the organization here are a few highlights of what has happened recently and what is in the works. 

 

The new WJAA Board Took Office January 1st. Replacing a WJAA Board that had accomplished a great amount of things in their 2 year term.

 

Here are some highlights from the past board: 

 

  • Took Haunted Woods to two weekends and doubles it's profits. 

  • Partnered with Williamsburg Local Schools for Old Gym improvements including new backboards, new paint job, a scoreboard overhaul. 

  • Started Pre-season Basketball tournament to fund improvements to the Old High School Gym. including those listed above and future projects.

  • Started a very successful kickball tournament to fund a new WJAA park sign, replacing the existing 30 year old sign. 

  • Brought Youth Wrestling into the organization and grew it's numbers by almost 300%

  • Started a cohesive soccer uniform program to save money on soccer uniforms from year to year and to make our teams unified in look and style. 

  • Purchased a John Deere 1200a infield groomer to better maintain our 7 baseball fields and save use on our aging tractor. 

  • Made the baseball batting cage operational and nearing completion of the Softball batting cage.

  • Upgraded concession to a cash register system and brought it's profits up by more than $10,000 dollars. 

  • Managed to keep prices to play sports at WJAA the lowest in the county on average.

  • Had all the WJAA Complex fences repainted. 

  • Had all WJAA fences repaired.

  • Added WJAA Social Media with WJAA Facebook& Twitter + Haunted Woods Facebook & Twitter

  • Installed fencing around batting cages.

  • Added Wifi to the Complex

  • Started a rainy day fund and policy for WJAA

  • Started a 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade basketball program for the first time ever.

  • Made another league (CAYBL) available to our teams in Basketball

  • Added credit card payments to the concession.

  • Had the Baseball fields reworked to improve drainage.

  • Started The Mark Isacc Youth Wrestling Tournament

  • Doubled our Kid Glove Fundraiser

  • Wesbite functionality and improvements

  • Started a $500 WJAA Scholarship for high school seniors

  • Completed anexation of WJAA in the Village

  • Added mandatory background checks for all coaches and volunteers

  • Added coach training and parent feedback tools through partnership with NAYS

 

 

Here are some highlights from the current board and what is in the works:

 

 

 

  • Began design work on new WJAA Complex sign to be installed in first half of 2015

  • Approved Money for Sound Tiles to be installed in the Old High School Gym in 2015

  • Plans to return to pegged bases on field 5 and repair the pitchers mound on field 5

  • Softball Batting Cage to be completed on Cleanup Day March 2015

  • Major repairs were done to our Tractor in February 2015

  • Started an Equipment Exchange Program

  • Entertaining ideas for a parent buy out of concession duty program.  

  • Replacing all locks at the WJAA Complex

  • Began plans for an RV and Boat Storage program/fundraiser at the Park for winter 2015-16

  • Added plans to allow some older WJAA baseball teams to play in SWOL and add players from outside our district to fill teams. Keeping more kids playing basball at WJAA longer. 

  • Adding real baseball infied dirt to baseball fields before play in 2015.  

 

WJAA Scholarship Announced

Williamsburg Junior Athletic Association is proud to announce a new Scholarship for graduating Seniors. WJAA will award one graduating senior a $500 scholarship starting with this years 2015 graduating class.

 

Qualifications: Must be a senior in High School. Must have participated in at least one year of youth sports at WJAA. There is no relationship between the award and your athletic ability. The award  winner will be decided by the WJAA board based on the application form and a short essay on "How WJAA Impacted My Life" or "What I Learned at WJAA". Special considerations will be given to those students who also volunteered time at WJAA.

 

The application form found here must be turned into Mr. Short or to a WJAA board member by 3/30/15. The winner will be announced during the senior awards.

At the November Board meeting held on Tuesday November 25th, 2014. The Boad Officers election was completed. These seats will be held for 2 years starting Jan 1st 2015 and ending December 31th 2016.

WJAA Board Seats up For Nominations/Elections 2014

September 16th 2014

 

WJAA Board Members Terms will be ending and up for re-election this fall. Nominations will take place at the October meeting (4th Tuesday). The Election will take place at the November meeting (4th Tuesday).

 

In order to be nominated as a board member you must be a member at WJAA. Meaning you have had a child participating in WJAA during the last 12 months or have been a volunteer head coach during that time. In order to vote in the election you must have been present and signed in at a minimum of 4 board meetings during the past year. These seats are two year terms. All positions are up for nominations. 

 

Based on interest and polling of our current board we are seeking people interested in:

 

Vice President

Secretary

Treasurer 

VP of Concessions

VP of Baseball

VP of Fundraising

 

If you are interested in learning more about he duties of these positions you can read our bylaws which are located under "About Us" - Board Members. We would encouarge anyone interested to attend the September meeting on 9/30/14 at the WJAA concession at 8:30 PM.  

 

WJAA Seeking A Fundraising Rep

February 11th 2014

 

WJAA is seeking to fill the volunteer board member position of Fundraising rep. We are looking for someone with a passion for the WJAA and for this kind of work. 

 

VP of Fundraising

  • Will head all WJAA sanctioned fundraisers

  • Will develop and bring to meetings new ideas for fundraising

WJAA Monthly Board Meetings

January 19, 2014

 

Board Meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of every month.

In the winter months November - March the meetings are at 7:30 at the Williamsburg Village Hall. From April through October the meeetings are at 8:30 at the WJAA Complex. All coaches are expected to attend while their sport is in season. All memebrs are invited to attend. a member is anyone who's child has played a sport in the sports year at WJAA.
